Automatic Data Repair

Systems->Data Manager Menu: none Action: none If the program detects a data problem during use, it will display a message in the upper-right corner of the screen indicating 'File in use, retrying...' At this point, ProfitSystem© is retying the data operation a few times to see if it was a transient network problem. If that message clears and the program goes on, it means that it was able to complete the operation without error. However, if it can't continue, it will display the following message: 'One or more of your data files MAY be corrupted. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, restart the program and try again. If it works, everything is ok. Have you already tried restarting?' Clicking No will cause the program to exit, and the program should then be restarted. Sometimes shutting down and restarting the program will correct data problems. The same operation should be retried to see if the problem has resolved itself. If the 'One or more of your data files MAY be corrupted..' message is displayed again, it indicates a data problem that must be corrected. Clicking Yes will cause ProfitSystem© to start the automated data repair process. The program will create a file called FLAG. in the data folder, and display a message to restart the program. Make sure everyone else is out of the program, and then shutdown and restart it. At startup, the program will detect the FLAG. file and start the repair process. 1. Make a backup of the data files, called BACKUPYYMMDDHHMMSS.ZIP, located in the ProfitSystem data folder. 2. Remove all the indexes for the TICKITEM table. 3. Remove any blank records in the TICKITEM table. 4. Remove any records with duplicate ticket + line numbers in the TICKITEM table. 5. Remove any blank records in the SINVSTOR table. 6. Remove any records with duplicate style+size+color+width+store id in the SINVSTOR table. 7. Perform an update data, which will insure that all the tables have the correct fields and indexes. 8. Perform a repair headers on all tables, which will insure that the tables themselves are logically consistent. Once it finishes, it will display a message to 'Restart the program on this computer and confirm it is working before starting it on other computers.' The program should be restarted at this point and the same operation retried to see if the problem is corrected. An automated data repair can be started by going to the Data Manger, located at Windows Start Menu->Programs->BBL Systems->Data Manager. Click the Database Repair button. To cancel the automated data repair, click Remove DB Repair Flag, located at Windows Start Menu->Programs->BBL Systems->Data Manager. To completely disable the automatic data repair, create a file called NOREPAIR.TXT in the livedata folder.
