Using The Fingerprint Reader

Now that the software has been installed and ProfitSystem has been configured, you must teach ProfitSystem to recognize each employee's unique fingerprint. This is called enrolling fingerprints. The steps outlined below must be carried out for EVERY employee in the shop for which you wish to have clock in or out using their fingerprint.

  1. In ProfitSystem, click on Housekeeping, then General Setup, then Sales Associates.
  2. Have the employee whose fingerprint you wish to enroll stand next to the computer. Click on the name of the employee, and click the Details tab at the top.
  3. Click on the Enroll Fingerprint button.
  4. The Enrollment window will appear:

  1. You will be asked to select and enroll two fingers for each employee. Select the first finger from the First Finger drop-down menu, then the Second Finger (the two fingers cannot be the same). Then click on Start Enrollment.

  2. The SecureTouch Enrollment window will appear, and the Fingerprint Scanner will light up.

  1. Another window will appear at the top of the screen asking the employee to press the requested finger onto the scanner.

  2. Press the requested finger onto the scanner and hold it there (press firmly, but not too hard). Keep holding the finger there until the system asks the employee to scan the second finger. Press the second requested finger on the scanner and hold it there, until the Successfully enrolled window appears. Click on OK. Note: If the fingerprint is not scanned in the allotted amount of time, try again.

Repeat steps 2 thru 5 above for every employee in the shop

CLOCKING IN AND OUT USING THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER

Once the employee's fingerprint is enrolled, ProfitSystem will immediately start requiring the employee to submit their fingerprint whenever clocking in or out. The process is simple:

  1. Click on the Clock IN/OUT button on the ProfitSystem Main Menu
  2. The standard Login window will appear. Enter the Sales Associate ID and press either the ENTER key or the TAB key.
  3. The SecureTouch Authentication window will appear. This window looks similar to the window that appears when enrolling the fingerprints, and works exactly the same way.

  1. A window at the top of the screen will tell the employee which two fingers they can use.

Press and hold either of the requested fingers onto the scanner and hold.

  1. If the scan was successful, the standard ProfitSystem clocked in or clocked out window will appear. Click OK or press ENTER to close the window.

USING THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER FOR SECURITY

If you selected to use the Fingerprint Scanner for Security in ProfitSystem (which you would have done back in Stage 3, step 2 of these instructions, then ProfitSystem will start asking for the employee to scan their fingerprint in place of entering their password on any security validation / login screens. The process works the same way as it does for clocking in and out.

FINAL NOTES AND REMINDERS

The FP program MUST be running at all times in order for the Fingerprint Scanner to work with ProfitSystem. If an employee goes to clock in or out, and the SecureTouch Authentication window does NOT appear, this usually means that the FP program has been closed. If this happens, it can be re-started WITHOUT re-booting the computer. Quit ProfitSystem, go back to the Desktop screen and double-click on the FP icon to re-start it. Make sure the Big Brother entry can be seen in the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen, then re-start ProfitSystem. The Fingerprint Scanner should now work properly.

The Fingerprint Scanner will always light up when it's ready to scan your fingerprint. If the scanner does not light up, check to make sure the FP program is running (see above). Also make sure the Fingerprint Scanner is still plugged securely into your computer's USB port.

If the Fingerprint Scanner rejects the employee's fingerprint, the SecureTouch Authentication window will remain open. If this occurs, try using the same finger again, or try using your other enrolled finger. If the fingerprint is still rejected, then the employee's fingerprints were NOT enrolled properly. Go back and enroll that employee's fingerprints as outlined in the ENROLLING EMPLOYEE'S FINGERPRINTS section of this document.

If the Fingerprint Scanner rejects the employee's fingerprint(s), and you are certain that they HAVE been properly enrolled, make sure the surface of the Fingerprint Scanner is clean. Use a DAMP (not wet), soft, lint-free cloth to gently clean the surface of the scanner. Eyeglass cleaning wipes can be used as well.

Do NOT use a paper towel, as this may scratch the surface of the scanner, and do not use any cleaning solvents (like Windex) apart from those specifically made for cleaning eyeglasses.

An employee's fingerprints can be re-enrolled at any time.
