Starting the ProfitSystem for the first time
When you start ProfitSystem for the first time this message will appear:
Since this is the first time you’re running ProfitSystem, you need to specify your station name and provide ProfitSystem where the data files are located. Do you want to do this now? If you choose NO, ProfitSystem will not start.
Answer YES to configure the workstation.
To configure a workstation
At the TPS Windows Data Directory prompt, enter the path where the data files were installed. The default directory is C:\TPSWINS\LIVEDATA. When on a peer-to-peer network system, the \tpswins\livedata folder will be located on the SERVER hard drive.
The server’s drive must be shared and fully readable. When entering the path to the data files, use the UNC path. For example if your server is called SERVER, and the hard drive is shared as C, enter \SERVER\C\TPSWINS\LIVEDATA.
We recommend using the UNC (Universal Naming Convention) path (such as \SERVER\C\TPSWINS\LIVEDATA) rather than mapping a drive letter to your server (such as F:) Windows will sometimes “forget” these drive mappings requiring you to re-map the drive letter before you can use ProfitSystem®. A UNC path will always work.
At the Register Name prompt, enter a name for this register (for example, POS1). The register name is used to identify the computer to ProfitSystem®. All sales transactions are stamped with the register name that processed them. The register name is also printed on the sales receipt.
We recommend you use descriptive workstation names (such as POS1, RECEIVING, SERVER, etc.) so they will have meaning to you. If you are setting up your computers and network from scratch, use the same descriptive names for your computer names in Windows.
At the Workstation Number prompt, either type in a station number or use the up and down arrow buttons to the right of the entry field to increase or decrease the number. The station number is used to identify the computer for the Credit Card Processing integration.
We recommend that you number the computers sequentially, starting with 1.
Click the SAVE button when you are done and ProfitSystem will automatically create the necessary entries for this workstation.
A message box displays, which tells you the software is not yet licensed. Click the OK button to continue.
The next thing to appear is the Set Business Date form. This form is displaying the current date and asking you to confirm that it is correct. Normally, your computer keeps track of the current date. Make sure the date shown after “Set ProfitSystem business date to” is correct.
Enter MANAGER for the Sales Associate.
Click OPEN STORE.
Please contact BBL Systems for instructions on authorizing the computers and unlocking the software.
